About
#20050 Katie Grabowy was introduced to Kiniya through her mother, Kathryn Ward Grabowy, who attended Kiniya in the summers of 1971 through 1973. She wanted Katie and her sisters to experience the same summers she did on the shores of Lake Champlain. Katie spent her first summer at Kiniya in 2001 when she was eight years old, alongside her older sister #20150 Allie. They share the same Kiwi year (2004). Later, their sister #20950 Christina, arrived, making it a family affair.
Katie continued to return for the next 12 summers, where she experienced partnering with Dudley and then rose through the leadership ranks. In 2013, her last summer at Kiniya, she co-led the German exchange trip to Camp Abbensen. With her Camper days behind her, Katie has stayed closely connected to the Kiniya and Dudley community, attending camp pals’ weddings and even going as far as South Africa to visit with Kiniya friends. She was pleased to give a chapel talk at Kiniya in 2025 and is thrilled to continue connecting with and serving the alumni community in her capacity as DKAA co-president.
After 13 summers at Kiniya, Katie stepped away to finish her bachelor’s degree in Social Work at the University of South Carolina in 2015. The following year, she graduated with her master’s in Social Work from New York University and has since been working as a social worker in NYC. She is currently a licensed clinical social worker on the burn unit at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, assisting in the post-acute care plans for burn survivors. She lives and works in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
