Camp Dudley Archive
Welcome to the Camp Dudley Archives—a place built for you, our Dudley alumni.
For generations, Dudley has been shaped by the people, moments, and traditions that make it so special. As the oldest continuously operating summer camp in the United States, dating back to 1885, we’ve worked hard to preserve and celebrate that incredible history. This page brings it all together in one place.
Here, you’ll find hundreds of photos capturing life at camp across the decades, a full collection of The Last Whistle, and countless glimpses into the experiences that have defined Dudley for over a century.
We invite you to take your time, revisit old memories, and discover new ones. Enjoy exploring the Archives and all that it has to offer—and if you feel inspired, you can support our archival efforts by making a gift to the Camp Dudley Annual Fund.
Explore Our Past
Camping on Champlain was uncovered in the Camp Archives and stands as a precursor to The Last Whistle. Through its narrative and imagery, it offers a vivid glimpse into the activities and spirit of summers long ago.
Camp Dudley Storyboard offers a look at how the Camp Dudley Archives truly came to life. Spanning from our founding in 1885 through 2009, it traces the camp’s rich beginnings, growth, and the acquisition of our sister camp, Kiniya. Filled with photos and narrative throughout, it brings Dudley’s storied past into clear view.
A Letter from a Camp Director to Its Leaders, written by Chief Beckman (Camp Director from 1908–1948), offers an in-depth look at what it meant to be a Leader in Dudley’s early years. His words outline the responsibility, character, and care required to do the job well. It’s a powerful reminder of values that continue to guide Dudley leadership today.
Black Pioneers at Camp Dudley highlights five individuals and their experiences at camp through a collection of posters now available to view online. Focused on the years 1956–1971, it brings their stories and contributions into clearer view through photos, dates, and narrative. These posters are also displayed on camp property, honoring their accomplishments and lasting place in Dudley history.
